The motel has been in business since the early days of Cochrane and has undergone many changes.
An old newspaper clipping about Cochrane in 1951 contained the following reference,
"Nothing too earth shattering occurred that year. In June, the Albert Motel (now Commando Motel) opened its doors. It was the first accommodation of this type in town."

ALBERT HOTEL and MOTEL, Railway Street, Cochrane Ontario.
Opposite Union Station, convenient to everything in town. Friendly atmosphere, first class dining room.
60 fireproof rooms - 38 with running water @ 2.50 up; 22 with Bath @ 5.00 up
Eventually the Hotel part was torn down but the motel remained.
